How a Semester at IIT Delhi Reshaped Shubham Jain’s Academic Outlook

How a Semester at IIT Delhi Reshaped Shubham Jain’s Academic Outlook

When Shubham Jain, a B.Tech student at JK Lakshmipat University, began his semester exchange at the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, he knew it would be more than just a change of campus. It was a chance to step into a new academic environment, explore unfamiliar disciplines, and grow—both personally and professionally.

Within just a few days, Shubham found himself immersed in a wide range of subjects—from core courses like Machine Learning and Analysis of Algorithms to electives such as Introduction to Psychology and Animation Design.

This exposure to new ideas and ways of thinking began to reshape his academic outlook. He started to see connections between technology and fields like human behaviour, design thinking, and biology.

“The learning here is helping me think beyond conventional career paths,” he said. “It’s making me reflect on how I can apply my knowledge in the field of design, management, and biology.”

A big part of this shift came from the learning culture at IIT Delhi.

I am enjoying the experience of learning from the renowned faculty at IIT Delhi. I am also getting to learn a lot from the experiences and approaches of my fellow students in class and during projects,” Shubham said.

Beyond academics, Shubham found moments that shaped him in quieter, more personal ways. An 18km bicycle ride that he undertook from Jhandewalan market to IIT Delhi in extreme cold and rain was one such moment.

His drive to explore extended into campus life too. Shubham took on the role of Activity Head for the Kaizen Fest, organised by NSS IIT Delhi—the official chapter of the National Service Scheme under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India.

The experience gave him a chance to lead, collaborate, and contribute to a student-driven initiative with social impact.

As his semester continues, Shubham hopes to explore more of Delhi and deepen the relationships he’s already begun building.

But more importantly, he will be returning with a broader academic vision, a stronger sense of purpose, and a clearer understanding of the kind of engineer—and thinker—he wants to become.
